Fred Bouwman and Steve Pelton ventured North alone during the last week of September 2011. We were fortunate to have outstanding weather, sunny, warm, cloudless days, crisp cool nights and no wind. The leaves changed before our eyes as each day passed.
I tried grouse hunting for the first time and had great success. It was fun to hike through the woods along the old, abandoned logging trails that I recall being open roads 30 years ago. Fred’s cooking talents were demonstrated to have fresh grouse and fresh walleye for dinner – can’t beat it!
Fishing was slow, but we did not mind when surrounded by the peaceful beauty of the wilderness.
